Meet Our Team member Abbi! Associate Osteopath at The Backbone Clinics:
Abbi qualified from the London School Of Osteopathy.
What first attracted you to Osteopathy?
I first came across osteopathy as a mother of restless babies. I was inspired (and relieved!) by the effectiveness of osteopathic treatment for them, as well as other friends and family over the years, to eventually pursue it as a profession.
What have you find most challenging since becoming an Osteopath?
As osteopaths we are trained to consider the whole person and the factors that have caused and contributed their symptoms. Our role is to help the client optimise and maintain conditions – physical, emotional, habitual and otherwise – for health and healing. This is client-led process that takes time and sustained care. The challenge has been to stop myself from wishing I could fix everything, all at once.
What surprises you most about the profession?
The trust clients have in you. It’s a great privilege and motivator.
What’s your most memorable moment as a practitioner?
A wonderful moment followed a session with a client in a substance abuse recovery programme, who said, “I feel like I can breathe.”
Can you shared a nugget of wisdom for well-being?
Breathe. There are obviously physiological and physical reasons to do so, but sometimes, taking the time to take a few deep breaths really just helps to calm and refocus.
What are you doing when you are not working?
Travelling and theatre when I can; otherwise taking walks, following tennis, and doing crosswords that I have a decent chance of completing.
What makes you smile?
Everyday little things, like cat snores, waddling babies, flowers in a kitchen, colour of the winter sun.
Abbi works on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. To book an appointment with Abbi you can call the clinic directly on: 020 8886 8698 or to make an online booking please click here…
