Meet Our Team member Rengin! Associate Osteopath at The Backbone Clinics:

Rengin qualified from the University College of Osteopathy (former British School of Osteopathy).

Before studying Osteopathy Rengin worked as a nanny and Early Year’s practitioner and leader, where she really enjoyed caring for others. Her interest in human biology and her drive to help people led her to pursue a career in Osteopathy.

Throughout her training Rengin worked with patients of different ages, backgrounds, and people suffering with chronic pain conditions, such as HIV. She is currently specialising in Womens Health.

What first attracted you to Osteopathy?

My father and I worked together when I was in secondary school. Baby hip dislocations, children needing orthopaedic shoes, and other orthopaedic related issues were in my interest. I used to ask a lot of questions around those issues and treat them. Since Osteopathy is uncommon where I come from I did wish to study to be physiotherapist. However my journey took me to the UK. Where I learned about osteopathy, I started doing my own research and more I read about it more I become fascinating and passionate about Osteopathy and how I can impact people lives (How I can help people).

What have you find most challenging since becoming an Osteopath?

The human body is complex is not like in the text box. As an Osteopath we see patient as a whole we look at their, work, stress, pain or discomfort they are coming in and many other aspect of their life style when we see the patient. we don’t see just the disease we take the person in account. Which makes you learn, research and read articles with each person walks through the room. I believe human body is like an ocean with each wave you become a better surfer.

What surprises you most about the profession?

When some patients comes in with scan being scared and not moving as much to protect the area. Where Osteopathy comes in and take patient into account to their own treatment given them the space to be heard, listen and express their journey. Communication and listening are one of the key aspect of our profession

What’s your most memorable moment as a practitioner?

Getting spontaneous hugs and trust.

E.g. Treating parents for first time and bringing their baby or children in for you to treat them

Can you shared a nugget of wisdom for well-being?

Connect, Be active, keep learning, give and take notice

What are you doing when you are not working?

I’m doing my post graduate in women health. I love learning, reading, exploring new cultures, food, music, dancing, going to musicals, playing violin, hiking, travelling. Also you can find me in many different cultural events.

What makes you smile?

Simple and small things, also seeing small changes in patients gives greater joy
